What is saint monica?

Saint Monica, also known as Monica of Hippo, was a Christian saint and the mother of Saint Augustine. She was born in the year 331 in Thagaste, Numidia (present-day Algeria) and died in the year 387 in Ostia, Italy.

Monica is known for her steadfast faith and prayers for the conversion of her son, Augustine, who initially rebelled against Christianity. Her prayers were answered when Augustine converted to Christianity after years of living a worldly life.

Saint Monica is considered a patron saint of wives, mothers, and abuse victims. Her feast day is celebrated on August 27th in the Roman Catholic Church, August 18th in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and May 4th in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
